About the Dish:

Lomo Saltado is a popular Peruvian dish that combines Asian and South American flavors. It is made with stir-fried beef, onions, tomatoes, and spices, and is typically served with rice and French fries. The dish originated in the late 19th century when Chinese immigrants in Peru fused their culinary traditions with local ingredients. Lomo Saltado has since become a beloved dish in Peru and is often considered a national dish.

Ingredient Quantity
Beef (sliced) 1 lb
Red Onion (sliced) 1
Tomato (sliced) 2
Jalapeno (sliced) 1
Cilantro (chopped) 1/4 cup
Soy Sauce 3 tbsp
Vinegar 2 tbsp
Cumin 1 tsp
Olive Oil 2 tbsp
Salt To taste
Black Pepper To taste

Cooking Instructions:

  • Step 1: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef and cook until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  • Step 2: In the same skillet, add the sliced red onion and jalapeno. Cook until the onion is tender and translucent. Add the sliced tomatoes and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Step 3: Return the beef to the skillet and add the soy sauce, vinegar, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, until the beef is cooked through and the flavors are well blended.
  • Step 4: Remove the skillet from the heat and sprinkle chopped cilantro on top. Serve the Lomo Saltado hot with rice and French fries on the side.
